Precautions To Be Taken During Acid Rain
Acid rain is serious environmental problem that affects large parts of the US and Canada. Acid rain is measured using scale called pH. The lower a substance’s pH, the more acid it has in rain.
How Acid Rain Affects us
Acid deposition has a range of effects, including damage to forest and soils, fish and other living things, materials and human health. Acid rain reduces how far and how clearly we can see through the air, an effect called visibility reduction. This is why we have flight delays. We can contribute directly towards preventing acid rain by conserving energy, since energy production causes the largest portion of the acid deposition problem.
How To Prevent Acid Rain
- Turn off lights, computers and other appliances when not using them.
- When buying air conditioners, heaters, refrigerators, washing machines etc, make sure they have the ‘Energy Saver’ option.
- Only use electric appliances when there is no alternatives.
- Set heater thermostats at 20 C in winters and air conditioners at 22.2 C in summers. Don’t need them ? Turn Off!.
- Carpool, use public transportation, or better yet, walk or bicycle whenever possible.
- Buy vehicle with low emission and maintain all vehicles well.
- Do your vehicles PUC check on time.
- Be well informed.
